Calibrating the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) is critical because it tells the controller the engine's load. Failure to calibrate the TPS can result in incorrect line usage, low pressure, and potential damage to the transmission.
The 10R80 transmission requires 1/2-inch or -8 AN cooler lines and a correctly sized transmission cooler located in the direct air stream to ensure proper cooling. Restricting lines to smaller sizes can cause overheating.
The transmission fluid level must be checked when the fluid temperature is at least 175°F to ensure the thermostat has opened and the cooler circuit is full. Checking at lower temperatures can lead to underfilling and damage.
