Setup

1. Installazzjoni tal-batterija

The NF-468S requires a 9V battery for operation. To install:

  1. Sib l-għatu tal-kompartiment tal-batterija fuq wara tal-unità prinċipali.
  2. Żerżaq jew neħħi l-għatu biex tiftaħ.
  3. Connect a 9V battery to the battery clip, observing polarity.
  4. Poġġi l-batterija fil-kompartiment u agħlaq l-għatu sew.

A low battery indicator will illuminate when the battery needs replacement.

2. Connecting Cables for Testing

Before testing, ensure the cable is disconnected from all active network devices.

Istruzzjonijiet Operattivi

1. Basic Cable Continuity Test (TEST Mode)

This mode checks for opens, shorts, and miswires in network and telephone cables.

  1. Connect the cable to be tested between the main unit and the remote unit as described in the Setup section.
  2. Slide the power switch to the "TEST" position.
  3. Observe the LED indicators (1-8, G) on both the main and remote units.
  4. The LEDs will light up sequentially from 1 to 8, then G (Ground).
  5. Interpretazzjoni tar-Riżultati:
    • Normal Connection: All LEDs (1-8, G) on both units light up in sequence, indicating a correct wiring scheme.
    • Ċirkwit Miftuħ: If a specific LED on either the main or remote unit does not light up, it indicates an open circuit (broken wire) for that particular conductor.
    • Short Circuit: If two or more LEDs light up simultaneously, it indicates a short circuit between those conductors.
    • Crossed Wires: If the sequence of lighting is different between the main and remote units (e.g., main unit shows 1-2-3, remote shows 1-3-2), it indicates crossed wires.
    • Pari maqsuma: This can be harder to detect with simple LED testers. If all LEDs light up correctly but network performance is poor, a split pair might be present. Advanced testers are usually required for definitive split pair detection.

2. QC Function (RJ45 Connector Crimping Test)

This function helps verify the quality of RJ45 connector crimps.

  1. Connect the RJ45 cable to the main unit's RJ45 port. The remote unit is not needed for this test.
  2. Slide the power switch to the "QC" position.
  3. Press the RJ45 connector firmly into the port. The tester will analyze the connection.
  4. Interpretazzjoni tar-Riżultati:
    • Connected Well: All 1-8 lights on the main unit illuminate, indicating a proper crimp.
    • Konnessjoni Fqira: If some lights (e.g., 2-4) are off, it indicates that the corresponding wire cores are not crimped properly.

3. PoE Test

The NF-468S can identify Power over Ethernet (PoE) devices and detect PoE standards.

  1. Connect the network cable from the PoE source (e.g., PoE switch) to the "PoE" port on the main unit. The remote unit is not required.
  2. Slide the power switch to the "TEST" position.
  3. Observe the PoE result indicators (D1-D4) and the PoE power supply type indicators.
  4. Interpretazzjoni tar-Riżultati:
    • The indicators will show if PoE is present and identify the power supply method (e.g., End-span (1/2, 3/6), Mid-span (4/5, 7/8), or 8-core power supply).
    • It also indicates compliance with IEEE 802.3AF or IEEE 802.3AT standards, or if it's a non-standard PoE.

4. Cable Length Test (Approximate)

The NF-468S can provide an approximate cable length measurement for telephone lines up to 2000 meters.

  1. Connect one end of the telephone line (RJ11/RJ12) to the main unit's RJ11 port. The remote unit is not needed.
  2. Slide the power switch to the "TEST" position.
  3. The tester will display an approximate length. Note that this is an estimation and may vary based on cable quality and type.
