4. Setup

Follow these steps to assemble and prepare your gem faceting machine for operation.

4.1. Install the Manipulator

1. Insert the nut into the track on the machine base.
2. Secure the manipulator base onto the machine using the nut and screw.
3. Install the height adjuster onto the manipulator base.
4. Install the U-bracket onto the height adjuster.
5. Attach the handle (dop stick holder) to the U-bracket.

4.2. Install the Lap

1. Place the master lap onto the spindle.
2. Place the grinding lap on top of the master lap.
3. Secure both laps with the gasket and the nut, ensuring they are centered and tight.

1. Connect the water pump to the water hose.
2. Place the water pump into a container filled with clean water.
3. Attach the other end of the water hose to the machine's water inlet.
4. Position the flexible water hose to direct water onto the grinding lap.
5. Connect the drainage pipe to the machine's drainage outlet and direct it to a waste water container.

5.2. Adjusting the Protractor

4. Turn on the machine and adjust the speed. Ensure water is flowing onto the lap.
5. Gently bring the gemstone into contact with the rotating grinding lap, applying light, consistent pressure.
6. Periodically check your progress and adjust settings as needed.
7. Repeat for all desired facets, changing laps as necessary for different grinding and polishing stages.
