Proper placement and installation are crucial for effective smoke detection.

Install smoke alarms on every level of your home, including basements and in every bedroom. For optimal protection, place alarms in hallways outside sleeping areas and in living rooms. Avoid placing alarms in kitchens, bathrooms, or garages where steam, cooking fumes, or exhaust can cause nuisance alarms.
