3. Setup

The Oregon CS1400 is designed for easy assembly. Follow these steps to prepare your chainsaw for use.

3.1 Unpacking and Component Identification:

3.2 Bar and Chain Installation:

2. Remove the side cover by loosening the tensioning knob.
3. Place the saw chain around the drive sprocket and then guide it into the groove of the guide bar. Ensure the cutting edges of the chain are facing the correct direction (refer to the diagram on the chainsaw body).
4. Fit the guide bar onto the chainsaw studs, ensuring the chain tensioning pin engages with the hole in the guide bar.
5. Replace the side cover and hand-tighten the tensioning knob. Do not fully tighten yet.

3.3 Chain Tensioning:

The CS1400 features a tool-less chain tensioning system.

1. Lift the tip of the guide bar and turn the red tensioning ring clockwise to increase chain tension.
2. The chain is correctly tensioned when it fits snugly against the guide bar, but can still be pulled around the bar by hand. There should be no sag on the underside of the bar.
3. Once tensioned, fully tighten the red tensioning knob to secure the bar and chain.

3.4 Filling the Oil Reservoir:

The chainsaw has an automatic oiling system. It is crucial to fill the oil reservoir before first use and to check the oil level regularly.

1. Unscrew the oil cap located on the top of the chainsaw body.
2. Fill the reservoir with high-quality bar and chain oil. Do not use motor oil or waste oil.
3. Monitor the oil level through the transparent oil level window during operation. Refill as needed.

Before starting, ensure all safety precautions are followed and the chainsaw is properly assembled and oiled.

5.1 Chain Lubrication:

The automatic oiling system keeps the bar and chain lubricated. Regularly check the oil level via the transparent window and refill as necessary. Never operate the chainsaw with an empty oil reservoir.

5.2 Chain Sharpening:

A sharp chain is essential for safe and efficient cutting. When the chain starts to produce fine sawdust instead of chips, or requires excessive force to cut, it needs sharpening. Refer to a qualified service technician or consult a detailed guide for proper chain sharpening techniques specific to your chain type.

5.3 Tindif:

• After each use, unplug the chainsaw and allow it to cool.
• Remove the side cover and clean sawdust and debris from around the sprocket, guide bar, and chain.
