4.2 Wiring to Flight Controller

The ELRS Nano receiver communicates with the flight controller (FC) using the Crossfire serial protocol (CRSF). Ensure your FC supports this protocol. Connect the receiver to your FC as shown in the diagram below:

4.3 Konfigurazzjoni ta' Betaflight

After wiring, configure your flight controller using Betaflight Configurator:

  1. Ports Tab: Enable the corresponding UART (e.g., UART3) as a Serial Rx.
  2. Betaflight Configurator Ports tab screenshot showing UART3 enabled as Serial Rx with 115200 baud rate.

  3. Tab tal-Konfigurazzjoni: In the 'Receiver' panel, select 'Serial-based receiver' and choose 'CRSF' as the protocol. Telemetry is optional; enabling it may reduce your stick update rate.
  4. Betaflight Configurator Configuration tab screenshot showing 'Serial-based receiver' selected and 'CRSF' as the Serial Receiver Provider.

5. Proċedura Vinkolanti

To bind your ELRS Nano receiver to your RF TX module or radio transmitter, follow these steps:

  1. Power on and off the Nano receiver three times consecutively.
  2. Observe the receiver's LED. It should begin a quick double blink, indicating it is in bind mode.
  3. Initiate the binding process on your RF TX module or radio transmitter. This will send out a binding pulse.
  4. Once successfully bound, the receiver's LED will show a solid light.

Nota:

  • The receiver stores binding information after a successful bind. It will automatically connect upon subsequent power-ups.
  • Ensure your transmitter module is running a compatible ExpressLRS firmware version.

6. Istruzzjonijiet Operattivi

After successful binding and configuration, your BETAFPV ELRS Nano Receiver is ready for operation. When powered on and connected to your flight controller, the receiver's LED will be solid, indicating a stable link with your transmitter.

  • Kontroll ta' qabel it-Titjira: Dejjem wettaq verifika tal-firxa u vverifika li l-uċuħ ta' kontroll kollha jirrispondu b'mod korrett qabel kull titjira.
  • Telemetrija: If telemetry is enabled in Betaflight, monitor signal quality (RSSI/LQ) and other relevant data on your transmitter screen.
  • Aġġornamenti tal-Firmware: Periodically check for new ExpressLRS firmware versions for both your receiver and transmitter module to benefit from improvements and new features. Firmware updates for the receiver can typically be performed via WiFi or passthrough.

7 Issolvi l-problemi

  • Riċevitur Mhux Vinkolanti:
    • Ensure the power cycle (on/off three times) is performed correctly, and the receiver LED shows a quick double blink.
    • Verify that your RF TX module or radio transmitter is in binding mode and transmitting a binding pulse.
    • Check for firmware compatibility between the receiver and transmitter module.
  • No Communication with Flight Controller:
    • Double-check all wiring connections between the receiver and flight controller (RX, TX, 5V, GND).
    • Confirm that the correct UART is enabled for Serial Rx in Betaflight's 'Ports' tab.
    • Ensure 'Serial-based receiver' and 'CRSF' protocol are selected in Betaflight's 'Configuration' tab.
  • Poor Signal Quality/Range:
    • Inspect the antenna connection to the receiver (IPEX MHF). Ensure it is securely attached.
    • Check the antenna placement on your drone. Avoid placing it directly against carbon fiber or other conductive materials that can block the signal.
    • Ensure the antenna is not damaged or kinked.

8. Għajnuniet għall-Utenti

Based on common practices and user feedback, consider the following tips for optimal performance:

  • Tqegħid ta' l-antenna: For best signal reception, position the receiver antenna as far away as possible from carbon fiber frames, batteries, and other electronic components that can cause interference or signal shielding.
  • Ġestjoni tal-Firmware: Regularly update both your ELRS receiver and transmitter module firmware to the latest stable versions. This ensures compatibility, access to new features, and bug fixes.
  • Provvista tal-Enerġija: Always ensure the receiver receives a stable 5V power supply from the flight controller. Unstable power can lead to unexpected behavior or disconnections.
  • Sħana Shrink: Use the provided shrink tube to protect the receiver from environmental elements and short circuits, especially in FPV drone applications where crashes are possible.
