5. Setup

5.2. Selecting the Correct Test Lead

The product is available with different specification plugs to suit various regional electrical standards. Ensure you use the correct test lead for your country's electrical system.

6.1. Power On/Off

Press the Power button to turn the device ON. Press and hold the Power button to turn it OFF.

  3. The display will also indicate the status of Line (L), Neutral (N), and Earth (E) connections.

The MS5908 can measure voltage drop under 5A, 8A, and 10A loads. This helps identify circuits that may be overloaded or have excessive resistance.

  1. Plug the test lead into the receptacle.
  2. Press the FUNC button to cycle to the voltage drop measurement mode.
  3. Use the Up/Down arrow buttons to select the desired load (5A, 8A, or 10A).
  4. The device will display the voltage drop (Vd) under the selected load.

6.4. Measuring Conductor Impedances

This function measures the impedance of Hot, Neutral, and Ground conductors.

  1. Plug the test lead into the receptacle.
  2. Press the FUNC button to cycle to the impedance measurement mode (indicated by 'Z').
  3. The display will show the impedance values for Hot, Neutral, and Ground conductors.

6.5. Identifying Proper Wiring in 3-Wire Receptacles

The MS5908 automatically identifies proper wiring configurations in 3-wire receptacles. Incorrect wiring will be indicated on the display.

  1. Plug the test lead into the 3-wire receptacle.
  2. Observe the L, N, E indicators on the display. Correct wiring will typically show all three as properly connected.
  3. Any anomalies (e.g., open ground, open neutral, hot/ground reverse) will be indicated.

6.6. Testing RCD (Residual Current Device) Operation

The device tests the reliability and response time of RCDs.

  1. Plug the test lead into an RCD-protected receptacle.
  2. Press the FUNC button to cycle to the RCD test mode.
  3. Press the TEST button to initiate the RCD test.
  4. Observe the display for the RCD trip time. The RCD should trip within the specified time (typically 30ms for standard RCDs).

6.7. Testing GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) Operation

The device tests the reliability and response time of GFCIs.

  1. Plug the test lead into a GFCI-protected receptacle.
  2. Press the FUNC button to cycle to the GFCI test mode.
  3. Press the TEST button to initiate the GFCI test.
  4. Observe the display for the GFCI trip time. The GFCI should trip within the specified time (typically 6ms for standard GFCIs).

7. Manutenzjoni

7.1. Tindif

Wipe the device with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure no moisture enters the device.

When the low battery indicator appears on the display, replace all 6 AAA batteries promptly to ensure accurate readings and proper operation. Refer to section 5.1 for battery installation instructions.
