2. Setup u Installazzjoni

Proper installation is crucial for the performance and longevity of your Thudbuster seatpost. Please follow these steps carefully.

2.1 Passi ta' Qabel l-Installazzjoni

  1. Record Current Saddle Position: Before removing your old seatpost, measure and note your current saddle height, fore/aft position, and tilt angle. This will help you replicate your preferred riding position with the new Thudbuster.
  2. Remove Old Seatpost: Ħoll il-post tas-sedil clamp on your bicycle frame and carefully remove your existing saddle and seatpost.
  3. Confirm Diameter: Ensure your new Thudbuster seatpost (or shim) diameter matches your bicycle's seat tube. Thudbuster seatposts are available in 27.2mm, 30.9mm, and 31.6mm direct fit sizes.
  4. Applika l-Griż: Apply a light, even coat of bicycle-specific grease to the insertion portion of the Thudbuster seatpost. Do not lubricate the seat tube of carbon frames unless specified by the manufacturer.
  5. Install Shim (if applicable): If using a shim (sold separately), insert it into the bicycle frame's seat tube. Align the split in the shim with the split in the seat tube.

2.2 Seatpost and Saddle Installation

  1. Insert Thudbuster into Frame: Carefully slide the Thudbuster into your bicycle's seat tube. The seatpost is directional: the laser-etched height lines should face the front of the bicycle, and the gold elastomer release button should be at the back. Be mindful of the minimum insertion height marked on the seatpost.
  2. Attach Saddle: Loosen the 5mm bolt on the seat clamp just enough to slide your saddle rails onto the seatpost clamp. It is not necessary to completely remove the bolt. If the bolt is fully removed and the clamp assembly disconnects, refer to the exploded diagram in the original product instructions for proper reassembly. The inner and outer clamps should be oriented so saddle rails can be inserted from the top.
  3. Tighten Seat Clamp Bolt: With both saddle rails installed, squeeze the seat clamp together and begin to tighten the 5mm bolt. Ensure your saddle tilt angle is correct before fully tightening. Tighten to a maximum of 16 Nm.
  4. Adjust Height and Orientation: Once installed, measure your desired saddle height and adjust as needed. Make final adjustments to the orientation of your saddle and seatpost height for a comfortable riding position.

4. Manutenzjoni

4.1 Changing Elastomers

Elastomers can be changed without any disassembly of the seatpost. This allows you to adjust the firmness rating to match your rider weight and preference. Never use a softer elastomer than recommended for your weight.

  1. Compress the Seatpost: Firmly press down on the saddle to compress the elastomer and allow the pivot arms to move.
  2. Press Release Button: While the seatpost is compressed, press the gold release button located on the back of the seatpost. This will unlock the pivot arms.
  3. Rotate Elastomer: Twist the elastomer so that its wings stick out of the pivot arms.
  4. Remove Elastomer: While the pivot mechanism is loose, remove the original elastomer.
  5. Install New Elastomer: Insert the replacement elastomer in the opposite order of removal. Ensure the elastomer is oriented correctly with the "TOP" and "BOTTOM" markings embossed on the elastomer itself. The elastomer must be fully seated inside the arms.
  6. Re-engage Release Button: Push down on the saddle until the gold release button re-engages, locking the pivot arms.

For a visual demonstration of changing elastomers, refer to the latter part of the installation video in Section 2.3.

4.2 Kura Ġenerali

Regular cleaning and inspection will extend the life of your Thudbuster. Keep the seatpost clean, especially around the pivot points and elastomer. If riding in muddy conditions, consider using a fender or a Cane Creek Thudglove neoprene boot to protect the pivots.

  • Pivot Arms Stuck Forward/Backward (during elastomer change): If the pivot arms are pushed too far forward or backward and the gold release button does not engage, press the release button from the ġewwa of the pivot arms to reposition them for elastomer installation.
  • Saddle Slipping/Tilting: Ensure the 5mm seat clamp bolt is tightened to the specified 16 Nm maximum torque. Verify that all components of the clamp are installed as per the diagram.
